Jean Paul was an 8-year-old boy in Rwanda when ethnic genocide claimed the lives of 800,000 people.

A Life Full of Disappointment

Young Jean Paul tried to make something out of his life, but, at every turn, he seemed to fail. He tried to enter the university, but with very few university openings in Rwanda, he was not admitted.

About the same time, Jean Paul was deeply disappointed by a girlfriend and chased away by an angry uncle. He turned to alcohol, as his father had, to escape his problems.

“I had no life,” says Jean Paul. “At that time I had no Bible. I could not see the Light of God.” Today he marvels that he did not end up in prison or in an endless drunken stupor.

Jean Paul’s Remarkable New Life

Five years ago Jean Paul received his First Bible in the language of his heart, Kinyarwanda. It dramatically changed his life. “To read the Word of God made me happy to that point that I could even memorize some verses like Luke 12:29-31 and Ephesians 2:8-10.”

God changed Jean Paul’s heart and life. “Before I was not able to see what is good … not even the right way that could lead me to eternal peace. But now, I have peace in my heart. I was a drunk … but now I am saved because Jesus is the way to eternal life.”
