Throughout his 28 years in the Armed Forces, Charles King* carried a Bible in his cargo pocket. No stranger to combat tours in war zones, Charles relied on God’s Word to ease the tension and comfort him about his purpose.

Whether on the frontlines longing for home or returning as honored Veterans, many Military Members are physically and emotionally wounded. These brave men and women suffer unimaginable loneliness and the pain of separation from their families and loved ones while placing their lives at risk.
Suffering from Invisible Wounds
Many American heroes are anxious and even struggle with guilt for leaving their children behind — and they are searching for the hope and healing found only in God’s Word. It comforts in ways nothing else can, especially when a Troop Member is fearful of what lies ahead or battles the invisible anguish of PTSD, suicidal thoughts, isolation, or hopelessness.
Receiving Spiritual Support from Scripture
That’s why American Bible Society’s Armed Services Ministry has provided free Bibles and specialized Scripture resources to Military Members and their families since 1817.
With more than 1.3 million active duty Troops and 18 million Veterans today, the need to provide our nation’s Service Members with the spiritual support of Scripture is greater than ever. They have sacrificed so much for us, and they need our help now to receive God’s promises He has for them in His Word.
